High potential and gifted education

At Euston Public School, we are committed to identifying and nurturing students with high potential across intellectual, physical, social-emotional and creative domains. We use standardised assessment data to identify students who are achieving above the expected academic level and provide targeted extension opportunities to support their continued growth.

Students are offered rich and engaging learning experiences that promote challenge and deeper thinking. Extension activities are designed around student interests and choice and may include exploring geographical phenomena, extending mathematical thinking, coding and creativity challenges and investigating and proposing solutions to local issues.

In the physical domain, students are supported through additional training opportunities and participation in Murray Darling and Barrier sporting events, including cross-country, athletics and swimming. Lap swimmers are also provided with specialised training sessions to ensure they are challenged and supported to reach their full potential.

We are proud to be involved in the ThinkTank program and offer bursary placements for selected students to participate in this critical-thinking extension club as an extra-curricular opportunity. This initiative provides high-potential students with access to advanced problem-solving experiences and collaborative learning.

At Euston Public School, we aim to develop confident, capable and curious learners by providing opportunities that inspire excellence and foster a love of learning.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
  • We are committed to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted students, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive at our school.
  • We identify students' learning needs in the classroom and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend students. We provide learning pathways, including enrichment and extension programs and acceleration.
Across our school
  • Our school recognises that every student is individual, and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and grow their strengths outside the classroom.
  • All our students, including high potential and gifted students, are encouraged to take on leadership roles through student representative council leadership, mentoring programs and peer coaching.
Across NSW
  • We work with other regional schools to share our expertise and classroom resources for the benefit of all students.
  • Our students have the opportunity to travel to different sporting events across NSW.
  • Our school participates in Pulse Sunraysia, a large-scale event providing a wide range of performance opportunities for students.
